SB> Show off! I'm lumbering toward finishing "Monsterous Regiment of

SB> I think the end is very weak. Sigh ....
Hi Susan,
I really like 'Monstrous... ' until the end. I do not like the liberty
that King takes in the ending. I don't want to say more about it, as I
don't want to tip off what happens to people who haven't read the book yet.
Although it may be common knowledge around here, my participation has been
pretty spotty lately.
Some people thought the book was too feminist or too religious, if I remember
correctly; but those themes didn't intrude on my enjoyment, and were
essential to the story as far as I'm concerned.
Otherwise, I been stuck with a number of quite ho-hum readings, nothing that
really stands out, except for my current one, 'The Music of What Happens' by
John Straley. I think this is the third in his Cecil Younger series and every
bit as enjoyable as 'The Woman Who Married a Bear' and 'The Curious Eat
Themselves'. Younger is an alchoholic Alaskan who admits to "not being a very
good detective." Straley writes beautifully and revealingly about life in
Alaska. His titles come from folk legends.
TTYL,
