| subject: | Banana |
Hi Dale,
RH> Somewhat so--pineapple, banana, strawberry and apple, if I'm
RH> remembering rightly.
NB> Pineapple's the only one there that strikes me as being very
NB> Hawaiian...
RH> Banana is--we had a banana bush (trying to become a tree) outside of
RH> our front door.
DS> I remember having a banana tree at the house Mom & Dad rented when I
DS> was a pre-teen. I don't recall it ever having full sized fruit --
DS> perhaps
DS> only little finger sized fruit.
There are very small apple bananas, about finger size. It could have
been one of those.
DS> You'll need to make some obvious adjustments to this recipe, but it
DS> looked like it was worth sending anyhow.
DS> What about corn oil? Can you use it? If not any other oil (peanut,
DS> canola) should be same.
We mainly use canola and olive oils. Years ago, before we figured out
Steve's corn problems, I bought corn oil but then canola hit the market
and I've bought that ever since. Haven't tried to see how corn oil might
affect him.
DS> White wine -> apple juice?
DS> BTW -- Gail and I got to talking and were wondering about hominy for
DS> Stephen. It is (or was) corn. Ditto question for grits.
He avoids both, since they are corn. Working on the "better safe than
sorry" theory or in this case, migraine or no migraine.
DS> Title: Rio Rib-Eye Steak With Yellow-Pepper Sauce
DS> Categories: Mexican, Meat
DS> Yield: 4 Servings
DS> MMMMM---------------------------SAUCE--------------------------------
DS> 2 tb Corn oil
DS> 3 md Yellow bell peppers, thinly
DS> Sliced
DS> 1 sm Onion, thinly sliced
DS> 3 Cloves garlic, sliced
DS> 1/3 c Dry white wine
DS> 1 Canned chipotle chile in
DS> Adobo sauce, seeded
DS> 2 ts Worcestershire sauce
DS> 1/2 ts Salt
DS> MMMMM----------------------------BEEF---------------------------------
DS> 6 Boneless rib-eye steaks (6
DS> oz Each), fat trimmed
DS> 3 tb Adobo sauce (from canned
DS> Chipotle chile)
DS> 1/2 ts Salt
DS> MMMMM-------------------------BEAN SALAD------------------------------
DS> 15 oz Pinto beans, rinsed,
DS> Drained
DS> 1 lg Tomato, diced
DS> 2/3 c Thinly sliced celery
DS> 2 tb Chopped fresh cilantro
DS> 1/4 ts Each salt and pepper
DS> 1 tb Each olive oil and cider
DS> Vinegar
This would work with sub outs for some ingredients. We'd probably omit
the cilantro as well, or cut it down to a (very) light dusting. (G)
