See "Unauthorized Windows 95" by Andrew Schulman (IDG). He explains how all
the standard DOS stuff is still there in W95, with just a little Darwinian
evolution, and a lot of file name changes (i.e. COMMAND.COM is still there,
but the name is changed to KRNL386.EXE or some such). mSoft said that Win95
"does not depend on DOS", and this has been widely mis-quoted as meaning
there is no 16-bit code. Schulman explains that this does not actually mean
that DOS is not there, it simply means that Win 95 does not depend on your
already having bought DOS (as you had to with Win 3.1) because DOS is
included in the package with Win 95.
