most SPAM is sent as Blind Carbon Copies... your address is not in the
header of the message but included in the envelope of the message... and
don't believe the From: line at all... in fact, you are also best off
switching your email reader to offline mode before even clicking on the
spam to delete it... why? because they use pictures that are loaded off
their servers in them and then they just scan their log files to see who's
address is listed as retrieving the pictures...

ie:

where everything after the ? is what they analyze the logs for... they
slowly build their lists of valid email addresses...

if you set your software to offline mode, you won't retrieve the picture(s)
and can then delete, read, or report the spam without triggering their
detectors...
