When they took fighting out of the game that's when you saw the
increase in the stick work, and not by the enforcers (you never see guys
like Tie Domi, Gino Odjick or Chris Simon using the lumber), but guys
who couldn't throw a punch to save themselves like Claude Lemieux and
Ulf Samuelsson. After what Kirk Maltby(?) did to Claude Lemieux in
retaliation for what Lemieux did to Kris Draper, you not going to see
Claude take anymore cheap shots at Red Wing players anymore.
However American football is significantly more violent than
hockey. For one thing, the average career in the NFL is half that of
the NHL (three years to six years) despite it being comparable in
physical toil. And I've seen too many dangerous cheap shots taken on
opposing players, and not just at quarterbacks, yet it's celebrated as
"smash mouth football". Also hasn't there been about four or five
players in the past decade left paralyzed as the result of playing in
the NFL? I can't recall it ever happening in the NHL....
DGR> You know it's okay to simply say you don't like hockey. You'll
DGR> lose your citizenship, but it's okay...
EG> Since I'm not Canadian, I wouldn't lose my citizenship for that (I
EG> like the CFL).:-)
It's that damn origin line of yours, I thought you were from
Edmonton...
Shame we have to crush your US squad at the Olympics coming up...
Sincerely Yours
