WaterGate Development Update
Malmoe, 19 May 1997
The next public release of WaterGate, version 0.93, is nearing
completion now. A release is expected by the beginning of next
month. About time, because the last public release is dated
October 1996..
Here is what you can expect:
* The gateway will produce MIME message, using quoted-printable
encoding and transparant international character set translation
to support languages with accented characters.
* Direct support for processing downloaded POP3 mailbox files,
allowing for both single-user and multi-user POP3.
* Ability for better area structuring and easier configuration
through 128 groups instead of 26, a completely rewritten system
menu structure, a separation of users and other message providing
mechanisms, a file manager to pick paths and files and a lot more.
* Automatically importing messages for BBS users in a designated
area or routing through a certain user (for secondary tossers).
* Direct support for WildCat message bases and improved support for
Squish message bases.
* A BBS Interface for easy integration with BBSs that do not use
the support message base formats.
* Option to automatically kill spam articles.
* Loads of bug fixes, improvements and other new features in the
entire package.
* An OS/2 version!
It is not certain yet whether the OS/2 version will be released at
the same time as the DOS version. If not, then it will be released
a few weeks later.
