My listening to the RealAudio - I haven't heard the MPEG L3's yet -
impressed me.
The RealAudio new free 5.0 beta player can give some great sounding
vocals over a 14.4 connection without gaps.  Sounds amazing for
real-time telephone line feed, sometimes.  RealAudio provides an encoder
also at www.real.com.
