It lacks the hardware.  I think it might be able to do skype or something along that line.  Beats me since I don't require, or would even use, an internet based phone.  fidonet is the closest I get to text messaging.

I'll have a looksee later but offhand it I wanted and/or needed a smartphone I'd just buy one.  I see no reason to grow my own.
