I think this viewpoint is and has been greatly exaggerated from reality.
I find it seriously unlikely that there is a deliberate campaign by the
various Trek production people to systematically contradict "long held"
fandom views, ideas and concepts.
Besides as fans our only legitimate part of the whole process is to consume
the product that they produce if we like it, and not to if we don't.
