Having multiple views of the desktop has always been possible since
version 2. If you really want it here is how.
Right mouse button (RMB) on the desktop and open the settings from the
menu.
Select the windows tab in the notebook
Set object behavior to create a new window.
Set minimize behavior to minimize to desktop
Close the notebook
You might have to shutdown and restart to take affect (don't remember)
Now the open command on the desktop right button menu will open a new
copy of the desktop. It will have the normal window buttons and you can
make it full screen. If you minimize it, you should see a little desk
icon. When you click on Desktop in the tasklist the second desktop will
come into full view, and be fully functional.
The only caution is that it is fixed as the main desktop appears at
creation. So if you are going to make changes to the desktop then you
want to use the upper left button to close this, make your desktop
changes and then open a new one back up again.
I used to use this technique extensively in OS2 version 2 but decided it
was easier to extend the RMB menu with the programs that I would
normally start from objects.
