there is a logistics problem when you are dealing with 2 to 3
thousand people. This is a strain on the food service
facilities, hotels, Etc. It's not like going to breakfast on a
regular basis. A lot of people have to be served and get things
done before the sessions. A start that early would be difficult.
When I lived in Texas, one year we tried an 8-30 start for the
state
convention and a 1-30 start for the afternoon and even there it
didn't work because of people having to get out of the
restaurants, take their dogs out and such. The devotional
service is optional, the session is more mandatory. I think that
experiment in Texas was in 1981 or 82 but I'm not sure.
Also, non-session time is the only time when you can have
committee meetings and go to the exhibit hall and so on. The
exhibit hall is already over crowded because of the limited time
we have during the week except for the first 2 days. People also
have to work these things and it is hard on them too. You can
only push people so hard.
