Not necessarily. Depending on the receiver's dynamic range, longer wires can
sometimes cause overload. Granted, this usually isn't a problem
"mid-range" to "high end" receivers, but with some of the "budget" receivers,
overload can be a real problem. I used to have an old Realistic DX-100 and at
night, the overload on 80mtrs was so bad, I had resort to using the on-board
telescopic whip! I also had a Panasonic RF-3100 at one time, and just for the
heck of it, I tried a different (longer) antenna configuration. With the
"new" antenna, the only station I could pick up was The Voice Of Free China,
and I was picking it up all over the whole 'friggin spectrum! The best
solution is simply to experiment and see what works best.
