Hi Jim,

-=> Quoting Dale Shipp to Jim Weller <=-

JW> My favourite toppings were and still are pepperoni, bacon and
 JW> mushrooms.

JW> It is said that the best style of pizza is whatever the first one
JW> you ever had was. That's true in my case.

Not in my case. My mom bought boxes of Apean Way, made it up "straight",
with only a bit of cheddar cheese in addition to the "cheese" packet
that came with the mix. When I went to college, one of the student cooks
made a wonderful thick crust, loaded with toppings, pizza that was the
best home made I ever had. Best pizzaria ones came from a place called
Pontello's, in Geneseo, NY. My home made is pretty good too. (G)

 DS> When I went to college ...
DS> full sheet pans and then cut it into squares.
DS> pieces were about 3 inches square.
DS> $0.10 per slice. They sold a lot of pizza.

JW> So 40 cents for a decent snack and 90 cents for a filling meal.
 JW> Pretty decent, even then.

Some of us could get by with just a couple of slices to fill us up. (G)

JW> Yellowknife has seen some great Mom and Pop pizzerias over the
JW> decades but we're in a lull now. Most folded when the owners
JW> retired for lack of a buyer.

JW> So we have just five choices, 3 good, 2 not so great.

JW> -1- Bruno's (formerly Luigi's). Ironically run by Chinese people
JW> both times. Old school take out and delivery. Greasy in a good way.

JW> -2- Main Street Pizza and Deli. Run by the same people who started
JW> Main Street Donair and Falafel where they make a great Shawarma.
JW> (Donairs are Gyros and the owners are Egyptian, making Lebanese
JW> food). The pizza place is Halal and serves both pizza and Indian
JW> Food. The pizzas are intriguing as the toppings include ground beef,
 JW> lamb and tandoori chicken.

That's a place I'd like to check out, given the opportunity.

JW> -3- Boston Pizza. A western Canadian chain that offers pizza, pasta
JW> and other Ital-Canadian dishes. Plus wings, nachos, burgers, ribs and
JW> steaks etc. Licensed lounge and medium OK food.

JW> -4- Dominos, not the worst.

JW> -5- Pizza Hut, was marginally OK in the past but went downhill under
JW> the newest owner. Will probably fold soon.

If I were going out for pizza in YK, I'd go to #2 as first choice, then
#1, then #3.

Catch you later,
Ruth
