I know what Pete is referring to when he speaks of those meetings that go
until 3 or 4 in the morning. They are those Amway Dream Week ends. I have
friends and a sister in that. I also think that is too long and I would
never go to them because of that. I don't want to get into a big discussion
of Amway here , because I happen to like their products for the most part,
but that kind of meeting schedule isn't for me. There is a definite purpose
in mind with those lengthy meetings among which is to keep people out of the
bars and with the 3 hour or so religious service that closes these week ends,
reunions Etc. to more or less force people to attend their brand of religion
and preclude them from attending the church of their choice for by the time
these Amway services end, it is hard to impossible to go to your own church
as those services are usually over by then and you are in a strange town if
you're not a local.
I think the internet idea is a good one, but remember a relative minority of
blind people are on the internet just as sighted people. It is growing, but
not the majority yet.
I have modified my position on broadcasting the convention sessions to the
hotel rooms. I think it should be done, but on a pay per day basis. If
people had to pay $10.00 a day for that privilege which over a week's time
would make it a signifficant expense they would reason that they could save
money by going to the sessions. If they want to lay, let them pay.
I talked to some friends in the A.C.B. and they had to stop doing it because
at some sessions at some points in time they were getting only 2 to 3 hundred
people. But that could be a fund raiser for us.
