yes, it was modified "on the fly" from something that processes
two lines for one file...

argh! that's because i removed the original command and forgot to put in
the del statement... oh well... it did give an example of processing a
file, line by line and doing something with those results...
granted, it was (somewhat) overkill for the actual task at hand...
