| subject: | Re: Buying SHares |
Somewhere in the Ether, Frank Malcolm uttered this to Garry Norton about Buying SHares FM> Hi, Garry. Hi Frank, So how's the factory going? FM> Well the first (no odd lots) has in fact come in on October 1; you see FM> some strange trades going through (strange to those of us used to the FM> old rules). Today I saw 1 (yes, one) BHP, followed by 35. That would have caused a giggle. Just imagin if it was a share worth a dollar or less :-) FM> Not sure if the other one has been implemented, I certainly haven't FM> seen any evidence but maybe everyone's just used to the old regime. I FM> must put in a bid for BHP at 1799 tomorrow, see if it's accepted. How did it go? FM> I guess it's horses for courses. If you're a professional investor, do FM> your own research, know what you want, not interested in floats, don't FM> need any of the other services, then you may be better off with a FM> 'discount' broker. But many want at least some of the rest. I agree and am lucky enough to have been quite satisfied with the broker I have used for the last 5 years or so. But some experiances people relate make it easy to compare some brokers to used car salesmen :-) FM> Yes, I guess that could well have happened that day. I was actually at FM> university doing an MBA, on that day, listening to a lecture on how FM> efficient the markets were! ROFL! I would have loved to be in the next day's lecture by the same lecturer! FM> And so do most clients. Some go further, want to meet their advisor FM> in person before they do any trading. A potential client of mine with FM> *significant* bucks to invest is personally interviewing advisors from FM> 4 broking firms before deciding whom to use. I hope I'm the one he'll FM> select. :-) Goodluck with the interview (probably you've had it by now). If I was about to spend a lot of money, I'd interview brokers as well! In a sence I did, I asked several brokers a series of questions and evaluated their answers, and importantly, their attitudes. It made it easier to make my decision which I am still happy with. GN> I'll have to speak to the SHAW company, won't I Frank? FM> Would be a pleasure to talk to you, Garry. (02) 238-1360 or 1361 are FM> my direct numbers; (02) 238-1238 switch; (018) 411-767 mobile. Or even, FM> (02) 810-8202 home. FM> Regards, FIM. Thanks for your details Frank, I'll keep them for future reference and we'll see how things progress. Regards, Garry ...
