Subject: Hoekstra Amendment Withdrawn
Congratulations!  The Labor-HHS-Ed appropriations bill passed in
the House today.  The Hoekstra Amendment that would have block
ranted many federal education programs to local education
agencies was withdrawn my Congressman Hoekstra.  His office
reports that it did not have the necessary votes to pass.  Now
that both houses have passed their Labor-HHS-Ed Appropriations
bills, conferees will be named soon and we will work to have the
Gorton Amendment removed entirely from the final bill.
