Don't feel bad.. chuckle..
 
One of the first times I was towing the old 4 horse stock trailer.. I was on 
a long downhill grade on the backside of Wrightwood (in the mountains) on 138 
when I went over a patch of black ice.. Common sense ruled the day and we 
were ok... I kept the engine at the same pace.. and just lightly touched the 
trailer brakes as I needed to to keep us in good shape.. :)
