That's just a bit too harsh...and somewhat foolish, Kit !
Sue's right...and she's wrong, at the same time. She's right to have read
you the "Riot Act" because if she allowed _you_ to "get away" in breaking
Rule 8 of the Conference Rules, she opens the door for others to take undue
advantage. How ? The old "...well, you ignored HIM, but you're stepping all
over _me_ ?" thing would very soon become a most pronnounced difficulty.
I highly doubt that Sue Matthews would _unfairly_ and _unjustly_ pigeon-hole
you and you alone. As a Moderator, she _has an obligation to_ uphold - and
enforce - ALL of the Rules to both this echoed Conference _and_ the FIDO
network. In a sense, she's like a traffic cop that, though s/he sympathises
with a speeder's reason for exceeding the signed speed limit for a highway,
s/he is compelled by their job to uphold the Law and to administer an
enforcement effort. Some cops will "throw the book at you", while others will
"knock-down" the actual speed-over-the-limit so that the offender won't
necessarily lose any demerit points from their driver's license. In either
instance - Sue's or the traffic cop's - the call IS definitely
discretionary"
by nature...
Mind, it's MHO that Sue may have (momentarily) suffered a small lapse of
memory: I wrote her and suggested that I really thought your "one line"
message was quite humorous in nature...BUT that's only _my_ opinion, and I
"don't count" around here. In this, I defer to the greater wisdom of the
Moderator, after all, it's _entirely_ her call ! She's the Moderator, and
I'm not...
KB> When you have repented you may reach me in netmail to apologize and ask
 KB> me back...
Don't hold your breath, Kit ! If I were in Sue's shoes (as Moderator), I'd be
just as content to let you go. Why ? Well, you see, Kit, HERE you _did_
"preach", and that just doesn't sit too well with most Moderators. They're
ot
used to being _told_ what to do ! It's one thing to _respect_ another for
religious beliefs and quite another matter to spin-out things so that "you're
not to blame". Under the circumstances, Kit, I'm afraid that it's not just
ue
that _you_ owe an apology to, but everybody else that participates in this
Conference... Sue was NOT "out of line" but _you_ Sir, _WERE_, and notably so
with the above-quoted line.
