Right now Alberta is experiencing a huge boom driven by oil. Rumour is the
local donut shop (Tim Horton's) employees are making $18 an hour due to the
extreme labour shortage. House prices up 50% over the past couple of years
in Calgary. My sister-in-law lives in Edmonton and is trying to complete
some home renovations, next to impossible to get anyone to do the work.
Next to impossible to find a place to live upon arrival even if you are
well paid.
In fact the tension between the huge boom out west and the shuffling
sideways central economy is causing grief for the Canadian central bank.
