I like to think every bad year owes us a good one. Let's hope this is
true for next year. It seems to be true. I can recall it seems we get a
cold spring every other year of not a drought every other July?

The cold; chill is what kills the poor things. That's why I get so mad
when people put ripe toms in the fridge. Cold air KILLS the ripening
enzymes. Some veggies and fruits of course stop ripening after being
picked. Tomatoes/ peppers / bannanas / peaches... to name a few keep
on agoin' I do believe. Unless you stick them in the fridge. Of course
the fridge may keep them longer once they are ripe but the sweetness
tends to diminish. Your best bet is to either eat the darlings up
right when they're ripe, make something with them or can them.
Freezing I think doesn't do most fruit/vegs justice. Yet the very
acidic ones such as cranberries seem to fare well. Oh Peppers and
onions do too but they get soggy so you have to use them in stews or
such that don't require their cripsness.
Anybody try brussls sprouts in beef stew btw???? Gosh just at the last
six minutes so they don't go mushy and stinky though. Sorry Im hoping
topics oops. Bad habit. ouch. -=cindy
