Forget this, Paul. I didn't realise that text editors did character translations. They were all changing the 0x00 to 0x20! I wrote a little utility to strip and add the cunbatch line and it works fine. In fact, gzip is a bewdy! Just feed in zip, compress or gzip format and it uncompresses okay. It's a bit slow, though.
