 They do   (or did), when my USR Courier modem asked for a retrain from
 my Zoom  VFC internal I would get XID timeout and a prompt hang up
 without fail, until I set S27=48 (disabled V.42 detect phase) on the
 courier.....Seems Zooms didn't like V.42 auto detect phase...you had
 to just force V.42, blindly.
The modems WOULD NOT do a successful online retrain, without the
S27=48.

This was the first thing that I noticed about my zoom and so I imediately
changed it's mind.

My Zoom came with a Rom ver. earlier than Ver.1.ooo and I upgraded it
to Ver1.000 just a week before I sold it.
