The message from Paul Charbonneau rises higher:
PC> Here are some quick thoughts on recent stuff that I heard:
PC> Echolyn - When the Sweet Turns Sour
PC>
PC> Found it used, worth it, but nothing special.
Yeah, that sums it up, but what is good on is VERY good, in my opinion.
The songs I particularly like are "100 Diversions," "Meaning And The
Moment," "Patchwork," and "This Time Alone."
PC> Ars Nova - Transi
PC> Very well done in the ELP power trio style. Was not impressed with
PC> what little I heard from the first one but this sounds fine.
Stuart and I saw them girls live. Twas quite an interesting site to
see these little Japanese girls with bows in their hair blowing the roof
off the place. They were good, but the music got pretty repetitious
after 30 minutes or so. I still don't hear the ELP influence that
everyone else hears.
PC> Hoyry-Kone - Hyonteisia voi rakasta
PC> Without any doubt, one of the best recent releases I have heard.
PC> Song by song they can be compared with just about anything but as a
PC> whole, this release is one of a kind. Simply superb !
Yup. This is quite a dandy.
PC> Deus Ex Machina - Diacronie Metronomiche
PC> Those who were fortunate enough to see them must have a sore butt...
PC> ...that's not from sitting still I imagine.
They were the fastest and best (meaning they made no mistakes -- or
at least not that you could tell) band I've ever seen or heard. That
stuff they do in the studio sounds a bit held-back compared to what they
did on stage. It seemed effortless to them too. Incredible and really
too much for me. I was exhausted when the set was over. Awesome.
They, Landberk, and White Willow were the most memorable bands at last
years Progfest. Too bad there won't be one this year.
