I have a tablet - a Kindle Fire - which I got on a super-cheap "buy me
daddy"
sale at Best Buy - $29. It has some books on it. The freebie 1-year
subscription to the digital edition of the Washington Post expired - mostly
unread - and was not renewed. AFAIAC it's a toy with a couple semi-neat
features. I refuse to do any of the social media - on principle. Someone wants
to socialise with me they can do it to my face (and not the smarta$$ phone
app) or via e-mail/fido/mailing list. Or pick up the Alexander and give me a
call.
At my motorcycle gang meeting Wednesday night our webmaster was extolling a
new thing he was doing on farcebook. I commented that I wouldn't be able to
access the "feature" since I didn't do social media. Which led to
a quick poll
of the members in attendance .... we're, most of us, old folks. Old guys on
old motorcycles is the Vintage Iron Riders. Anyway of the 53 members at the
meeting 21 did not have a Facebook account - nor want one. I left the meeting
feeling not quite so isolated from the rest of the world.
