No experience YET with one. The only model I recall seeing is actually a
SATA drive with a SCSI adapter built onto it back. Panasonic is the
brand, saw it on PriceWatch.
The issue for most of us is that SCSI as we know it and IDE as we know
it are slowing fading away. The IDE and SCSI camps have met and declared
a truce. SATA interface specs for IDE and SCSI are moving together is
almost lockstep. This simplifies life for the drive mfg, as they only
need to build one basic drive to suit both markets. However, the drive
mfgs that want to sell to the data centers of the likes that Walmart
(many 10's of terabytes, going to hundreds of terabytes soon) has MUST
build EXTREME reliability into their devices. That's why those of us
with SCSI drives in our systems almost never replace a disc drive. 10-15
years later old 10-15MB SCSI drives are still going strong.
Products sold on price, i.e. MOST of the retail market for PCs and their
parts, will be satisfied with MUCH lower reliabililty figures.
So, I will continue to believe that there will be two markets with
different price points for each. SATA for the mass market and SATA for
the data center market
