That would be like garden Armageddon!

While we lived in Ottawa, my parents kept the country home and we
used it summers. It was impossible to keep a garden without living
there full time and with dogs wandering around loose. The deer and
racoons massacred everything the groundhogs and rabbits didn't get.

When I was young I hand dug a pond in a low spot that was always
damp. It was about 24 feet in diameter and 2 feet deep except for a
"well" in the middle about 8 feet wide and maybe 6 feet deep, just
big enough for a few goldfish to survive in over winter. It would
have dried out every summer except that it was lined with plastic
sheeting and fed from the house's basement sump pump. One year blue
herons flying overhead noticed the goldfish and swooped in to devour
them. Their claws pierced the plastic while they were wading in the
pond and it dried up overnight.
