From the book by Major Keyhoe, we read:
"In 1952, the crew of an AF Bomber (B-29) tracked a formation of
UFO's at 5240 miles an hour, during a practice flight over the
Gulf of Mexico. Another formation swung in behind the bomber, slowed
to pace the aircraft, then raced up toward a large craft which had
suddenly appeared on the Bomber's radar. Within seconds, the smaller
UFO's merged, on the radar, with the giant ship. Evidently this was
a prearranged rendezvous, for retreiving the smaller sized units.
As soon as they were taken aboard, the huge carrier ship accelerated
to a speed of over 9,000 mph and went off the scope.
The Gulf of Mexico report was released to me early in '53, before
the C.I.A. take-over and the increased coverup.
The AF report, given to me with a signed official clearance, admitted
there was no conventional explanation. Later, radar engineers calculated
the size of the carrier ship, as indicated by it's large blip on the
radarscope. The giant craft they estimated was at least 1200 feet long.
This is only one of many confirmed reports of huge carrier or mother ships
observed visually or tracked during the alien's surveillance of our
world."
In a following chapter the story continues...
"One significant case which proves the alien astronauts' technical
ability is the Gulf of Mexico encounter partly described earlier. As
detailed in an official AF report, three groups of UFO's were sighted
by the crew of a B-29 Bomber, during a night practice flight over the
gulf.
The first two groups were seen by several of the crew as they streaked
across the sky. The bomber's three radars showed the UFOs' speed
was 5,240 miles an hour. The third group abruptly slowed to the B-29's
speed, trailing it for ten seconds.
Suddenly a large spaceship showed upon the radarscopes. It was immediately
apparent that this was a huge carrier or mother ship appearing for a rendez-
vous.  The UFOs behind the bomber raced up toward the huge craft, 
accelerating to match its speed. Tracked by the B-29 radars, the smaller
objects swiftly merged with the mother ship. The instant they were aboard.
the gigantic carrier speeded up to 9,000 mph and disapeared from the
radarscopes.
The UFOs were retreived at a speed of over 5,000 mph.
To control the operation would require absolute precision and perfect
timing. Undoubtedly it was automatic, but to create and control such
intricate retreival equipment would take a very high order of intelligence
and technical skill.
In the official report cleared to me before the CIA takeover, the AF
confirmed all the details and admitted it had no conventional
explanation.
To construct and operate UFOs, especially the giant spacecraft, the aliens
must be centuries ahead of us. Aerospace genius William Lear, after
sighting a UFO from his executive plane, said they must be thousands
of years more advanced. The RAND document on UFOs agrees that older
civilizations will be extraordinarily advanced. Even the AF has accepted
the theory that man is average in development and that some space races
must have greater technical ability.(Stated in a HQ release April 27,1949)"
