I have an interesting rescue senario that I belive may be worth some
thought.
Ok it is 10:30 PM and raining outside. Your SAR unit receives a call.
It is the sherrifs office calling. At 8:45pm a citizen called informing
them that at 7:30pm he was out walking his dog at a nearby
communication site. He heard screaming from above. He looked
up and in the fading twilight saw someone or somthing dangling
from a support wire of a huge broadcast tower. "way up there"
a deputy is on the scene, they have informed the local FM station
and a technician is on the way.
You arive at the scene. Spot lights have been set up by the fire
dept. The Tech informs you that the tower is 1220 Ft. and the
person dangling is partway down the 6th guy wire level at 500 ft.
The sherrif thinks the guy was base jumping with a parachute
from the top. No screaming or movement is noticed from the victim.
The tower is quite old, at least 20 years. The antennas have been
turned down or off. There is a ladder going up the middle to the
top. No safty cables or ropes are present on the structure.
Fog rolls in. now what do you do?
(remember he is dangling from a guy wire, not ON the tower)
Is a resuce possible?
What equipment would you need ?
If you have ecountered similar scenes or have knowledge of this
type, or are familiar with high angle rescue please respond via
