subject: Video & Animation Busines

I was wondering if any of you have found a nice niche for your special
video/animation talents that you have had good success in?
I am new to my area and have done some small jobs (I have done 2
commercials, 1 Flying Logo animation, and several Video Photo Books). I
was thinking of contacting local restaurants and possibly putting together
a 30 min show every other week that would highlight 4 restaurants from the
area, charge them a minimal fee to do this ($400 or so) and then buy air
time on the local cable company and sell 12 spots of commercial time to
other local restaurants for mayb $150 each, and then run the show a total
of 4 times. Has anybody ever done anything like this? I would be
interested in ANY feedback I can get.
Also, have any of you gotten work from the chamber of commerce? Is it
worth becoming a member?
Would it be in my best interest to get a 1/4 page or 1/2 page ad in the
yellow pages or just have my business name and phone number listed (free) ?
I hope some of you will help out a beginner just breaking into the field (a
few months now).

well the niche is found , and someone does this in the Milw. chicago
 area...

 the end results....

        well at the ...
I guess maybe you should / would like to talk to some of the clients
that have dealt w/these types of productions..>?<.....
cable access time is cheap... and usually the production values are
equal... you get what you pay for .. and pie in the sky offers
usually end w/niether side winning?

what equipment will you be offering and using...?

3dstudio, alias...,topaz...?
bvp400a, or the smaller more versital bv507a setup..?

If you get to the Milw. area, please look us up, I will be more than
happy to provide you with a 400a crew for a day, $1,550.00 w/audio,
plus expenses. I always recomend Ampex tape, instead of the 3m for
BetaSp acquisition, but will shoot on your preference.

Best of luck on your new adventure, and I would personally go with a
minumum of 1/2 page ads, if your budget can support it, go for a full
page! (those really work well!)

Beta-cam on top of having a higher resolution usually incorporatess a
Time Base Correcter. Each Commercial station has a Beta Cam player and
when they play it, it looks much better than SVHS even if they have a
TBC for the SVHS player. Additionally, the third and forth generation
of Beta-cam doesn't loose as much as the SVHS systems. (sparkles and
jitters and drop outs and blurring) Non-linear editing can do alot but
it still has to go to tape. Non-broadcast doesn't need to have the
strict requirements. I called last week about renting a Beta-Cam
Studio Unit, its $200 a day.
