| subject: | Modem Question |
DA> I asked he about UART chips, and gave her the utility to check it. She say DA> her computer doesn't have one, but her modem does (16550). I've never hear DA> of that. Wondered if anyone else has. An internal modem will use it's own internal UART. (Actually UART emulation. Same difference.) It is unusual for a computer not to have one, if at least for a mouse. Most I/O cards will have one. But no, the internal modems use their own internal uarts, which are naturally going to be buffered (and report themselves as 16550AF's, usually.) --- QScan/PCB v1.19b / 01-0162* Origin: Jackalope Junction 501-785-5381 Ft Smith AR (1:3822/1) SEEN-BY: 50/99 270/101 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 932 934 712/407 515 SEEN-BY: 712/624 628 713/317 714/906 800/1 @PATH: 3822/1 3615/50 396/1 270/101 712/515 711/808 934 |
