Sorry if it came off that way to you. You had asked, I gave advice, you said
essentially 'OK, but that is not what I want to do' and I replied with why I
had given the original advice and related some of my experience learned from
several years of fighting with software. My whole point was that the original
advice was given for a reason and I feel very strongly about it. So many
people who have tried OS2 in the past have dumped it because they were using
a really old version of the code that had been fixed years ago. You wouldn't
expect people to judge OSR2 (latest Win95) based upon testing of Windows for
Workgroups? There have been 3 major OS2 releases and 32 fixpacks released
(coded) since Warp version 3 red pack was released. That is several years of
development and refinement and bug fixing. Don't put yourself through the
hassles of rediscovering old bugs and getting disgusted with OS2. As for the
files, FP26/29 is available from IBM (web and BBS), all HOBBES archive
mirrors and numerous other web sites. It is also likely to be available at
most IBMNET, OS2NET, and FERNWOOD BBS systems. I am sure Pete Norloff has it
online. The latest fixpacks have also been compiled by J3 comuters onto a CD
and are available from them for circa $10-15us.
Let me know here or in private email if you have any difficulty finding the
fixpacks, installing them or getting your OS2 working.
