Yep, it is different. I started out with DOS since that was all that
was available to me at the time so maybe that makes it easier for me.
Anyone who hasn't spent any time at the DOS prompt might find Linux
intimidating, although it's possible to use linux just as a desktop
much like Windows if that's what they want, that would be different
too, and you would need the memory to do it.

That's got a lot to do with it I think. I enjoy the challenge of
linux today much as I enjoyed the challenge of DOS.
