For the science, the volume edited by Laurent Keller (1999) "Levels of 
Selection in Evolution", is a good overview of the current state of the 
art in this area.  If you want to know more of the history of these 
disputes, then "Defenders of the Truth: The Sociobiology Debate" by 
Ullica Segerstr†le is a good read.
