Do you by any chance know if that's an intel based or a motorola based CPU mac? 2009 could go either way. The amazing thing about Macs that I have experienced is that they do have great longevity. Before I became disabled and knew I had trouble I bought a really nice Mac Pro (the one that looks like the round trashcan) with the intel xenon processor. It will probably be the last new computer I will ever have. Last October, my brother passed away, and I inherited his nice Dell laptop which I am currently running my BBS on. I also have a couple of older e-machines that I'm going to load linux on, unfortunately they have been stored in a garage that was not climate control so I'm not expecting them to work. If they work it will be great.
