I have the earlier one, the PX-708A, the only IDE/ATAPI device in this
machine. The firmware is one level out of date (I have to move the drive
to a Windozzze machine to do an update because the update is in the form
of a Windozzze [or Mac] executable), but it works fine with RSJ.
The PX-716A handles dual-layer media as well. Mine handles only
single-layer media.
(I prefer SCSI hard disks if for no other reason than that they are not
just the same as the IDE drive but with a different interface. They are
designed for heavy-duty commercial use rather than just
throw-it-out-and-buy-a-new-one-there-was-nothing-important-on-it-anyway
home use. but I'm not going to waste money trying to preserve the SCSI
purity of my machine if all I'm doing is buying an ATAPI drive and
sticking an adapter between it and the SCSI bus. Using an ATAPI burner
is actually reducing the load on the SCSI bus.)
