Thanks for the link, but the word "probably" does not inspire
enough confidence to experiment!  

I'm fairly pleased with my WinME machine (despite hearing that some people
are not having a good experience with it).  I just use a mundane /tmp
directory on my hdd for working with stuff that I don't much care about.
