     If you have been having this bad of a cough and congestion for more than 
10 days to 2 weeks, it could be a bacterial infection (possibly 
bronchitis...yech).  If your health care plan will cover it, it may be 
worthwhile to stop and see a doctor for antibiotics to assist in getting it 
out of your system.  I would suggest that you argue with them if they try to 
give you any of the "latest and greatest" antibiotics however... usually 
penicillin varieties and sulfa varieties work just as well for those who are 
not allergic to them and I know (at least with sulfa) they are quite 
inexpensive.
     It's not alternative medicine, but there are times that western doctors 
might actually be useful...
