Since we're on the SHORTWAVE conference, and you're radio has screw
terminals, I'll assume the radio in question is a shortwave receiver.
No, SWR is NOT a problem when the antenna is strictly going to be used for
receiving purposes. Any ol' hank of wire will work. Thank's one of the things
that makes this hobby so much fun, is that you can experiment with any kind
of antenna you care to experiement with, and you don't have to worry about
damaging your radio. (Unless of course, you decide you want to try using the
main house wiring as an antenna.) B-)
I assume your radio has TWO screw terminals? One should be marked ANT and the
other should be marked GND. The GND should be connected to a heavy-guage wire
which you hook up to a cold water pipe, or a ground rod. The ANT terminal is
where your antenna wire goes, if it's a "single conductor" lead in, If you're
using coaxial cable, you would connect the center conductor to this terminal
and the shield would also be connected to the GND terminal.
Hope this helps! Have fun!
