On my insurance glass replacement is under "comprehensive damage"
and there is no deductable. But, I use a semi-local insurer (Pekin
Insurance). Both AAA (Dairyland) and Farmer's Insurance treated glass
replacement the same as Pekin does. Which insurance do you have - so I'll
be sure to never consider buying a policy from them.

Something you might look into (or through) if your car is enough of a
"beater". When I lived on the farm we had a lot of gravel roads
to get to places - several of the neighbours had affixed re-bar frames with
hardware cloth (http://tinyurl.com/WIRE-MESHED square 1/4" holes) or
actual screen wire in front of the windshield of their pick ups. Seemd to
work - even if it did look goofy.
