Well, up here in canada our rates are a little more expencive, but along 
the same lines...  Have you considered renting a pager?  how long do you 
plan to use this pager?  I'm currently renting mine, and the rate is 
slightly more than what i would pay if i owned my pager ($1 more) with no 
activation fee, 4 hours voice message (if you want more it cost a lot 
more), numeric and unlimited calls.  the pager they gave me is the 
motorola bravo classic, sturdy, basic (clock, # lock, light, vibration & 
beep). all in all i'm happy with it, and i'm only locked in for 6 months.
also the number of messages that you have in your pager may make a 
difference on which one you should get...  how often do you expect to be
called? do you expect a few calls while you are sleeping?  how long do you
get for a voice message? anyways, ttyl...
