subject: [OS2HW] Melted ATX connector plastic

Google search: "atx connector"
I've found a posting describing my burned ATX connector problem. The
link is:
http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-9027-pc-smells-like-burning.html

I had seen another one earlier but am unable to find it right now.
I'll post its link should I come across it again. It had the user
unsoldering the ATX connector from the motherboard and soldering in
"metal posts" (wiring the didn't bend - at least easily). The user
also replaced the ATX connector on the power supply. Before
connecting the two together, the user applied Artic Silver. The user
reported, after doing this, the 5v was more in spec. Under load, it
only dropped to 4.9v, and at idle it was at 4.95v or 4.96v. I found
the link which is:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-2519.html
But you'll have to use the "cached"
http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:HMtBmv5YTqoJ:www.xtremesystems.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-2519.html+%22atx+connector%22&hl=en&client=mozilla>
link since the above appears to be removed. Of interest, are these links:
http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/burned%20atx1.jpg
http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/burned%20atx2.jpg
And of greatest interest:

An article describing the problem in detail:
http://www.overclockers.com/tips845/
and
http://www.overclockers.com/tips1139/

OK, I may be been just a little hard on Asus, BUT they are just as
much a part of the problem as the power supply makers since the
connectors involve both sides.
Hope this has been helpful to others as it has been to me.
