guess is that you can. The documentation for the USR 14.4 discusses the modem 
cable needed thus: a)  if your computer has a port like this (picture of a 
DB-9), get this calbe (picture of appropriate cable) b) if your computer has 
a port like this (pic of DB-25), etc. c) if you have a Mac, get this cable 
(pic of the mini-8 to modem cable)
  In other words, the implication from USR is that the difference is in the 
cable, not the modem. Obviously, they ship different software with the modem 
for Mac or DOS/Win.
  You are strongly urged to use a hardware handshaking cable with the Mac 
application; I guess the ones for Wintels must, by default, be hardware 
handshaking cables?
  Me, I'd give it a try.
