MB>I've never grown the pot marigold, but have seen it listed.
It's one of the easiest flowers to grow - small wonder that that
made it a favourite with our pioneer ancestors. :-)
MB>have used a product called clandosand. It is an organic product
MB>containing chitin which is ground up shell from crabs i believe.
MB>It's expensive, but seemed to really slow the nematodes down. It
MB>works by promoting the soil dwelling microorganisms that feed on
MB>chitin and alos on nematode eggshells that also contain chitin.
I hear my tobacco monoculture neighbours have a nematode problem, but
proper crop rotation, composted manure, organic fertilizers keep my
difficulties low. So does a hot summer! :-)
I used a crabshell-bonemeal mixture for a couple of years, and got the
sweetest tomatoes from my regular brands. And I loved the tangy iodine
smell in the air - reminded me of the seashore. I haven't seen it
offered lately, but I will always grab a mineral-rich natural ocean
fertilizer if given the chance. We interior landlubbers need all the
  restorative minerals we can get.
Simple seaweed can also strengthen plants - although they reputedly
resist frost better, anything that increases a plant's health should
confer resistance to all adverse conditions and pests, including
   nematodes.
MB>I used it for several years and haven't needed it lately. It's
MB>only drawback is it's high in nitrogen and you have to wait
MB>awhile before planting or you have way too much nitrogen and
MB>could burn your plants.
I guess that's why it was mixed with bonemeal, which reduced nitrogen
to more usable levels, and made a more complete fertilizer.
MB>SP> Not in my soil. I've only ever had seedling marigolds in a wet year.
MB>SP> :-) Even dill isn't very prolific at self seeding most years.
MB>OH dill sprouts here and there. I haven't had to plant dill in
MB>years. It always comes up somewhere!
Maybe I till the garden too soon - nah! That's how I get my poppies
and ground cherries year after year. :-)
