Hello T!
Friday August 23 1996, T Owen babbled to Greg Cobb:
GC>> I had often wondered why the negative comments about Carver then
GC>> seeing Claire and them at the same venues. :)
-> Yeah, Claire has the right idea; keep the weight down, but still
-> retain decent performance, which is a good compromise.
I think they have their sheite together. :)
-> I personally don't like EAW cabinets very much, because I find them
-> to be a bit harsh in the mid-high regions, but they are very powerful
-> as far as SPLs are concerned; the 2 inch HF drivers will rip your
-> head off if you aren't careful! My problem with EAW is not EAW
-> cabinets themselves, but rather that I am used to the sound of Meyer,
-> which kinda ruins me for anything else, but then not many folks can
-> justify the expense of Meyer gear.
Heh! This sustem we use down there is rented from Allstar Audio up around
Jackson Tennessee somewhere. I think if the guys at Sam's thought it to be
more practical they'd buy something better. With this though, we can take it
down in no time and bring the other pa in.
-> Oh, YES! Those Vari-Lites are wonderful! I am also fond of Morpheus.
I haven't heard of those....yet.
-> I did a show recently where the lighting company had something like
-> 60 cans and 8 Intellabeams, with 2 smoke machines and extensive
-> computer control; very nice, considering the cost, and the size of
-> the venue. The lighting system made my sound system look puny!
Barbara mandrell had about the same thing. She had the LARGE smoke systems,
her own cans and trusses, 24 VLs, and the LD was working off 2 consoles (or
at least trying to.) The show was better than what he was capable of doing.
The LD for The Everly Brothers (last Thursday) seemed to think that alot of
the rental LDs know more about the computer side of lighting than having the
ear to follow with it.
-> I know how *that* is; most frustrating! That's similar to the
-> situation at the above-mentioned show; the lighting was great, but
-> the guy running it was new to the system, and blew his whole wad
-> during the first song, in an effort to get used to the gear.
Sounds about right to me. This guy was nervous or trying to program during
the show or something. It was irritating as hell. Of course, I thank The
Everly Brothers for not moshing all over the stage with their acoustic
guitars. :) It was an easy show and the LD was nice and very easy to reason
with. Those guys had some of the best musicians I've seen in a long time. I
was impressed.
