You're doing the same thing Forbes does - confusing tax simplification with
the graduated income tax.  What makes our tax system so complicated is not
the different rates but figuring out what income gets taxed and at what
rates depending on whether it's dividends, capital gains, wages, from
municipal bonds, etc.  If all income was treated the same that would go a
long way towards putting sanity in to the system.

Once we do that then we can takle the deduction mess.
