-> Portable GPSs are now selling for about $500. But electronics prices
-> fall quickly, don't they?
Lee: I purchased an Apelco GPS15 and that was in early august, but I saw
fixed ones for under $500.00 myself. I have even seen them at $400.00,
on clearance, but there was nothing on the package regarding the
antennae. If the antennae is an extra add about $350.00. My antennae is
about 6-8 inches in diameter and mounts on a standard antennae mount on
the safety railing on the stern. But no matter what, they can be very
helpful and maybe save you a lot of travel time. A compass can give you
a bearing but it will not tell you where you are!
So I think they are worth the money. What I find is ridiculous is the
price of an EPIRB.
