Not so much a dirt track, more like a bungee corridor.
Bundanoon was originally a coal mine site- the two mines had steel rope and
pulley from staging at cliff top, down to the mine mouth which was cut
horizontally into the gully walls 300 feet down. Coal skips would ride on the
same hoisted platform.
Nice to be immune to hawkers and canvassers! Bet you don't get many visits
from your Grannie.
As villages go, ours doesn't have any civic feature in harmony with
OMEPOWER.
The trains are all diesel driven, the autos are too big and too smelly, and
the work horses are more for hobby farming and recreation. A young family in
our [hilly] street has a couple of odd bicycles. One has wee semi trailer
with rainproof accommodation for a baby. More innovative, is the articualted
bike ridden by a mother and her 8 year old. It is a regular adult cycle with
second cycle hinged behind the saddle post. That second cycle has no front
wheel. Both bikes have regular chain drive and gears, so young guy behind can
pedal out of synch with Mum, and free wheel if it suits him while Mum keeps
working. And vice versa. Neat!
Surrounded by extensive open forests, most homes seem to have wood fires. The
district has had a history of disastrous bush fires. We have no banks or
hain
stores, just little shops. But exceptionally we have *TWO* fire stations,
oth
with fire trucks. Good for a village of only 2000 people!
The power supply is unreliable, many interruptions. This is because there is
only a single incoming HV line and it weaves thru a very wooded route.
Our Cinema has been restored recently and the National Film Archive has had a
"do". They are to later stage a major Convention here.
I haven't noticed any solar collectors for hot water. Nor PV panels. One
ouse
has a [hobby?] windmill and water pump. Another house has a nice big
novelty]
windmill. Cheers...ALEC
