Me too. I've recently been trying a couple of new variants on Cdrecord -
picked up from OS/2 Site:

I've only tried them once so far (looks like my venrable Yamaha CDRW is in
the process of dying, wanted to try some 
alternate software in the hopes of finding out if its a hardware of
software problem). This version has patches to 
allow writing DVDs as well as CDs. Worked fine on my first attempt, though
I had to go through a 'cdrecord -scanbus', 
since it seems to have its own ideas about the SCSI id of my Yamaha.
