subject: [OS2HW] DVD Drive Connection, SCSI vs IDE; CD-RW

Hello Tinkerers

Well, I have done some messing around with the Sony
DRU-720A DVD burner this morning connected to the motherboard primary IDE
33 connector with a 40 line cable.

I burned a bulk 12X CDRW disc at 4X. The burn seems to
fine. What I learned is that using the ATAPI interface
instead of the SCSI interface messes up the drive letters.
I really should have figured that out by the change in ID
numbers.

     Interface ID Number Drive Letter
     --------- --------- ------------
        SCSI 2,1,0 Drive S:
       ATAPI 3,1,0 Drive V:

My primary purpose in burning this CD-RW disc is to
see if I can "blank" it.

Will a cheap, generic, no name media work where an
expensive brand name won't?

     We will find out soon.

OH, yes, I looked at e-Bay. They have some Plextor
CD-RW burners for sale. I'm going to get me one!

     Thanks
